OREANDA-NEWS. October 7, 2008. Sergey Kiriyenko: Rosatom’s long-term program will replace the federal target program for development of Russia’s nuclear industry

Rosatom’s long-term program to replace the federal target program for development of Russia’s nuclear industry starting from Jan 1 2009, Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko told journalists on Friday.

“The adoption of Rosatom’s long-term program allows us replacing the federal target program but in order to do it we must first complete the latter program in prescribed order,” Kiriyenko said.

“According to the Government’s instruction, we are planning to do all we are supposed to do under the federal target program by the end of this year and Jan 1 2009 will be a transition point. We will finish all the work planned for this year, will report on it to the Government and only then will switch to the long-term program,” Kiriyenko said.

When asked if the new program set higher costs for NPP construction projects, Kiriyenko said: “No, the costs will be the same. As far as nuclear power industry development is concerned, the new program is a copy of the federal target program, with the only difference being that the long-term program is wider. When we approved the federal target program, we did not yet have general scheme with lots of new projects. The long-term program has embraced this document too and therefore is wider,” Kiriyenko said.
