Russia to Sign Agreement for Construction of Nuclear Reactors in India
OREANDA-NEWS. October 6, 2008. The agreement for the construction of four more reactors in addition to the two units built by Russian Atomstroyexport at Kudankulam NPP (India) will be signed in Dec 2008, says Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko.
In a talk with journalists Kiriyenko said: “We are preparing for signing the agreement during the Dec visit of the Russian President to India.”
In Feb 2008 Russia and India initialed a framework inter-governmental agreement for the construction of four more reactors in addition to the two units built by Russian Atomstroyexport at Kudankulam NPP (India).
The start of the project was put off until the nuclear embargo imposed by the IAEA and the Nuclear Suppliers Group on India was lifted. On Aug 6 2008 the IAEA announced lifting of the embargo.
