OREANDA-NEWS. On October 01, 2008 Ukraine has forbidden the import of big and small cattle, as well as wild ruminant animals and their reproductive materials, from Sweden, Hungary and Denmark, the press service of the State Veterinary Medicine Committee of Ukraine reported.

The ban was imposed following registration of bluetongue cases among animals in those countries, the report reads.

Bluetongue, or catarrhal fever, is an infectious disease characterized with necrotic injuries of alimentary canal and tongue, as well as degenerative transformations in muscles of the affected animals.
