OREANDA-NEWS. October 01, 2008. SCM is one of the sponsors of the German Weeks of Culture festival which is taking place in Ukraine during September and October.  The festival is organized by the German Embassy in Ukraine with the support of the Goethe Institute which promotes German culture and language internationally, reported the press-centre of SCM.

SCM’s involvement comes through sponsoring one of the highlights of the Weeks of Culture festival -  the visit to Ukraine of the world famous German Grammy award winning, WDR Big Band Cologne  The band’s short tour starts with an appearance at the Opera House  in Donetsk  on 30th September followed by a private concert for invited guest in Kyiv to celebrate German National day on 2nd October and then a public concert on 3rd at the National Music Academy of Ukraine. This is the first time the band will have performed in Ukraine

The 22 piece band which plays jazz and swing music, is the house band of the German TV and Radio Broadcasting channel, West Deutsche Rundfunk (WDR) and is led by Grammy nominated conductor Michael Abene.

Commenting on the sponsorship Jock Mendoza-Wilson, SCM’s Director of International and Investor Relations said: “Germany is rightly famous for its big band music which brings to life Jazz and swing classics.  We are pleased to be able to help showcase German culture in Ukraine and to bring this unique style of to the country’s music and jazz fans.”
