OREANDA-NEWS. On September 30, 2008 Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine on European and International Integration Hryhoriy Nemyria held a meeting with a deputy of Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany, head of a European Union Committee Gunter Krichbaum and a deputy of German Bundestag, former Secretary of State Walter Kolbow, reported the Official website www.kmu.gov.ua.

The parties have mooted the issues of bipartite cooperation, in particular, in the sphere of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine as well as the results of Ukraine-EU Summit held in Paris, September 9.

“Achieved during the Twelfth Ukraine-EU Summit understandings on concluding an Association Agreement and on launch of dialog concerning defining of conditions on introducing a visa-free regime between Ukraine and the EU have become a proof that Ukraine as a European state shares common values with the countries of the European Union,” Hryhoriy Nemyria announced.

Gunter Krichbaum and Walter Kolbow expressed support of the European aspirations of Ukraine.

The interlocutors have also positively evaluated intensifying of Ukraine-German contacts, furthering of positive dynamics of growth of bilateral trade and increasing of German investments into Ukraine’s economy.

“Germany is viewed by Ukraine as a mainstream European partner in economy domain. We are concerned with moving further, readying new investment projects, acquiring of up-to-date German technologies and experience,” Hryhoriy Nemyria stressed.

Over 6 months of 2008 trade turnover with goods and services between Ukraine and Germany has increased by 38.2% against the respective period of 2007 and amounted 4,962 MN USD.

Over first half-year of 2008 Ukrainian export has totaled 1,248 MN USD, which is by 30% up from the respective period of 2007. By July 1, 2008 Germany has invested into Ukraine’s economy 6,757 MN USD which equaled 18.5% of general amount of direct foreign investments drawn into Ukraine’s economy.

The number of economic activity subjects with German capital has totaled 1316 enterprises. Germany ranks second among the world countries on the amount of direct foreign investments into Ukraine’s economy.
