International Uranium Enrichment Center May Get Licenses Soon
OREANDA-NEWS. September 30, 2008. “We expects that by the end of this year the International Uranium Enrichment Center will get all necessary licenses,” Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Atomenergoprom OJSC Sergey Kiriyenko said during the 52nd IAEA General Conference on Monday.
“In Jan 2008 we officially informed IAEA that we had included the center in the list of the Russian nuclear fuel cycle companies that can be subject to IAEA’s guarantees. We expect that by the end of this year the center will get all necessary permissions and licenses,” Kiriyenko said. He thanked IAEA for supporting Russia’s initiatives to establish such a center.
“The Center is open to third countries and sets no preconditions. Armenia and Ukraine have already decided to join it,” Kiriyenko said.
The International Uranium Enrichment center was set up by Russia and Kazakhstan on the basis of Angarsk Electrolytic Chemical Combine in 2007.
