OREANDA-NEWS. On September 25, 2008 KAZAKHMYS PLC, common shares of which are traded in the official list of Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE), provided KASE with the press release, reported the press-centre of KASE:

Kazakhmys PLC (Kazakhmys) announced that it signed a US94 million agreement Lodge Cottrell Limited, a subsidiary of Korea Cottrell Co., Ltd. to deliver and install electrostatic precipitators to the Ekibastus power plant as a first step in the modernization program, launched by Kazakhmys since it acquired the plant in May this year.

The first electric precipitator will be installed at the end of 2009 and by 2013 it is planned to have electric precipitators at six power units. These electrostatic precipitators catch 99.85 % of ash in the air and it is estimated they will reduce gas emissions by a factor of four.

Kazakhmys plans to invest further in the modernization and investment program at the Ekibastuz power plant, which is focused on the environmentally sensitive improvement of operations and capacity expansion of the plant.
