Ukrzaliznytsia Performs 80% on Railway Preparation by Euro-2012
OREANDA-NEWS. On September 24, 2008 The State Administration of Ukraine's Railway Transport Ukrzaliznytsia has performed 80% of the current plan on railway transport preparation for UEFA's European Football Championships Euro-2012 in Ukraine, reported the Official website www.kmu.gov.ua.
The main direction of Ukrzaliznytsia's work is introduction at Ukraine's railways of a high-speed passenger train traffic. With this goal in view, Ukrzaliznytsia performed the whole range of repair and construction operations on such directions as Kyiv-Poltava-Krasnohrad-Lozova-Donetsk, Krasnohrad-Dnipropetrovsk, as well as Kyiv-Zhmerynka-Lviv.
In particular, Ukrzaliznytsia carried out repair and construction works with total value of more than UAH 147 million. For example, over 37 km of railways was modernized, 14.94 km underwent full maintenance, mid-life repair - 82,925 km and overall-improving repair - 89.58 km. In 2008, railway men replaced 18.3 km of rails by the new ones and 180 turnout switches.
In parallel, an overall modernization of the railway section Poltava-Burty-Korystivka was made to unload railway sections on which the passenger trains with Euro-2012 fans will be running.
Furthermore, railway men plan to build suburban passenger stations at the railway terminals of Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, and repair railway station facilities within the Kyiv railway junction and complete the construction of a passenger railway station facility on the Darnytsia railway terminal.
