OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2008. Last Sunday annual international rocket-modeling competition started at Kazakhstan`s Baikonur space port rented by Russia. The competition, held under the flags of Roscosmos, Administration of the Baikonur city, Russian Rocket-Modeling Federation and International Aviation Federation (FAI), will last through Sept. 25.

This time the sportsmen arrived from Russia, Belorussia, Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Ukrain.

On Sept. 21, models of the rockets of 5 classes- accurate copies of real space rockets- were flying in the sky over the space port. The results of this competition were immediately submitted to FAI Headquarters in Switzerland.

Russia won world championship XVI in rocket-modeling in 2006, it was the first among 25 countries, and confirmed its status of the world champion in this sport in 2007.
