OREANDA-NEWS  On 19 September was announced, that the first safe stops appeared in Moscow.

The stops are surrounded by massive stone pillars with a height of around 0.5m. The road carpet near such a stop is brightly coloured. The pillars have light-reflecting stripes. This has been done for protecting passengers at the station from reckless drivers.

Sergey Titov, Deputy Head of Department of Housing and Urban Improvement of Moscow, noted that, first, an edgestone was very solid and, secondly, it wouldn’t allow cars to override it. “The warning pillars will let drivers know that a stop is ahead,” the official added.

There is a bay near each safe stop, so passengers don’t need to step on the carriageway to get on a bus or a trolleybus.

Drivers can see the areas of safe stops better as the road carpet near them is coloured. The experts are to estimate how useful it is in 3 months to come.

There are 5 safe stops in Moscow yet.

“From now on we will observe how safe these stops really are. Somebody likes them, somebody doesn’t. We see their advantages and disadvantages and we think over a way they can be improved,” Mr Titov said.
