Transsiberian Re Paid SOGaz RUR 5.4mln for Ship Damage
OREANDA-NEWS. September 10, 2008. Branch North-Western Bureau of OJSC Transsiberian Reinsurance Corporation paid OJSC Insurance Company of Gas Industry (SOGaz) 5.373mln rubles of reinsurance compensation on the fact of the damage of sea vessel “Almira G” (type – dry-cargo vessel; the year and place of construction – 1979, Holland; displacement – 2044 BRT; flag and port of registration – Georgia, Batumi). Payment is made within the limits of obligatory marine reinsurance contract signed through the brokerage company Willis.
The insured event took place on 18th of October, 2007. While transportation of wheeled equipment from Japan to port Vladivostok at a division zone for the purpose of passing another vessel, which was moving to the cross-heading, the captain of “Almira G” slightly altered his course (to the right) on autopilot. Strong current made the vessel deviated even more to the right. The bottom of the vessel hull touched down the barrier resulting in the considerable deformation of external cover and keel of the starboard, separate dents and fissions, complete submersion of engine shop.
The total insured amount of hull-insurance of the vessel made up USD 1.6mln, insurance indemnity – USD 1.05mln. The share of responsibility of Transsiberian Re under obligatory contract amounted 40% of the 1st Layer. After receipt of full loss portfolio Transsiberian Re made a decision to pay RUR 5.373mln reinsurance indemnity of their share.
