Belarus Starts Adjusting Regulatory Framework of Privatization
OREANDA-NEWS On 08 September was announced, that Belarus had started adjusted the regulatory framework of privatization to meet the requirements of the second phase of the privatization campaign for 2008-2010, which started in mid-2008.
President Alexander Lukashenko on August 26, 2008 signed into effect ordinance #443 to nullify ordinance #191 of March 3, 1995 on reform of state property and ordinance #526 of December 30, 1995 on the program of denationalization and privatization of state-owned facilities for 1996.
According to Deputy Economy Minister Oleg Melnikov, ordinance #443 does not amend the current privatization policies. “The document adjusts previous regulatory acts to upgrade them to current standards,” he said.
“Over the past few years the structure of property management has changed. The State Property Committee took over management functions from the Ministry for State Property Management, which also required adjustments,” Melnikov said.
Also, the government adopted resolutions #1,214 and #1,243 to specify the powers of the State Property Committee and adopt a new resolution on establishment of open joint-stock companies as a result of denationalization of state-controlled property.
