OREANDA-NEWS. August 27, 2008. Director General of Roatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko signed decree “On Organization of Work to Construct Baltic Nuclear Power Plant (Kaliningrad region)”.


The owner of the project is Energoatom Concern OJSC (former Rosenergoatom Concern). St.Petrsburg Atomenergoproekt OJSC has been recommended as the general designer of the plant.

The two units of the plant with WWER-1200 reactors (1,200 MW pressurized water reactor) are supposed to be designed by the end of 2009. 

To remind, on Apr 16 2008 the governor of Kaliningrad region Georgy Boos and the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko signed an agreement for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the territory of Kaliningrad region (Russia’s westernmost region). It is expected that the project will involve foreign companies. The first unit is to be launched in 2015.
