OREANDA-NEWS. August 25, 2008. In I half of 2008, Moldova produced 404,9 thousand dal. of cognac, increasing its output by 2,3 times as compared with the same period of 2007.

As it was informed in the National Bureau of Statistics, in January-June 2008, Moldova has also increased the production of the natural wine by 49.2% - up to 5 million 473.9 thousand dal. as well as sparkling wines (champagne) – by 25.5% - up to 156.8 thousand dal.

As it was informed before, in January-June 2008, production of wine in Moldova has increased compared by 1.6 times - up to 910.8 million leis.

Production of distilled alcohol beverages increased by 43.7% - up to 262.1 million leis (US 26.8 million).

Experts attribute the growth of production of wine goods in Moldova by the resumption of export of Moldovan wines and brandies to Russia since November 1, 2007.

According to Agro-Industrial Agency "Moldova-vin", in I half of 2008, Russian import of wine goods from Moldova totaled US 30.6 million, or 31.4% of its total export during this period. Thus, Russia exported 359.6 thousand 1 million dal. of bottled wines for US 22.2 million, 15.4 thousand dal. of sparkling wines for US 321.8 thousand and 160,9 thousand dal. of cognac for US 7,77 million.
