OREANDA-NEWS. August 25, 2008. In Balakovo the guests visited the Public Information Center and familiarized themselves with the principles of the work of a nuclear reactor and the history of Balakovo NPP. Thousands of residents and guests of Balakovo visit the center each year: it is a kind of scientific-technical museum and a training and methodological center, one of the favorite places of schoolchildren and students. The center helps them to prepare essays and carry out research and organizes seminars on different topics. The guests showed keen interest in the activities of the center as they in Tomsk are also planning to open such a center. They were impressed with the training center of Balakovo NPP with its modern equipment and unit control panel simulators. The NPP to be built in Tomsk region will also have such a simulator.

In Sosnovy Bor of Leningrad region the delegates met with the local administration and asked them how they organized public hearings. They visited the construction site of Leningrad NPP-2 and pointed out the high safety culture and competence of the constructors.

The guests also visited the Information and PR Center of Rosenergoatom Concern. The head of the center Ashot Nasibov familiarized them with the preliminary results of the survey conducted in the territory of Russia in 2008 concerning the attitude of the population towards the development of nuclear energy in Russia. He pointed out the active position of Tomsk region in the matter and expressed conviction that Rosenergoatom Concern would actively develop its cooperation with the region.

The Administration of Tomsk region is planning to visit other nuclear power plants in Russia and abroad.
