OREANDA-NEWS. August 22, 2008. Preparation of Lviv's airport for the 2012 European Football Championship is proceeding according to schedule, Peter Hampson, UEFA expert in charge, told a news briefing in Lviv.

He has already visited two airports in Ukraine, which will service the championship. Others will be examined in the course of his further inspection tour. His conclusion is that everything corresponds to the general plan that Ukraine once presented in Vienna.

Ukraine extended almost USD 250 million for this project. Deputy Prime Minister Ivan Vasiunyk says that all the 30 objectives set for this period of time had been reached.

Vasiunyk also said by the end of December, the workgroup including experts from the Netherlands will issue recommendations concerning expediency of building a European railway in Lviv region. Reconstruction of the Pryvokzalna Square in Lviv will be considered in this context, too.
