OREANDA-NEWS. On 22 August 2008 was announced, that the campaign of admitting to the higher educational establishments in and outside Turkmenistan has finished. Soon 4,000 first-year students will enter the auditoriums and lecture rooms having joined the vanguard of Turkmen youth. Hundreds of Turkmen boys and girls will go to the foreign countries to study at the prestige institutes.

That the results of the campaign was reported on during the recent sitting of the Cabinet of Ministers the high-ranking officials vividly testifies to the paramount importance attached by the Turkmen state and its leader to the education issues. This year’s campaign is a stage of the education policy consistently implemented in Turkmenistan. The results of the 2008 campaign evidence the progress of the modern Turkmen society who is aware of a particular role that education and science play towards success of the progressive reforms and changes going on in the country.

According to the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan over 20,000 school-leavers applied to 15 higher educational establishments throughout Turkmenistan this year. Most of the university entrants are the winners of the national and international contests and intellectual competitions.

This year 385 students more have been admitted to the higher schools than that last year. Based on the demand of the national economy in highly qualified specialists as well as increased number of entrants 18 new specialities were opened at the institutes including Italian Language and Literature and the Chinese Language and Literature at Magtymguly Turkmen State University, Korean Language and Spanish Language at D. Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages, Agricultural Chemistry and Soil Science, Plant Protection and Animal Breeding at the Turkmen Agricultural University, World Finance Market and Insurance at the Turkmen State Institute of Economy and Management, Commerce, World Financial Market and Industrial Engineering at the International Turkmen-Turkish University. The Turkmen State Institute of Culture will train future artists and circus actors. The Institute of International Relations will have the faculties: International Law, International Relations and Diplomacy, International Economic Relations and International Journalism.

The number of the Turkmen students studying abroad doubled. The Turkmen boys and girls will study at the prestige institutions under the intergovernmental agreements, on assignment by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, the sectoral ministries and departments, under sponsorship of the foreign companies operating in Turkmenistan. This year the Turkmen young people will study at the higher educational establishments in the Russian Federation, Turkey, China, Malaysia and Romania. The future specialists will acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge in information technologies, agriculture, medicine and sport, architecture and construction, economy and finance, oil and gas, chemical and food industries, road transport, navigation and fishery, etc. 

This academic year the disciplines: History of Turkmenistan, Philosophy, Sociology, Political Science, Economical Theory and others have been incorporated into the curricula at the higher educational establishments all over Turkmenistan.
