OREANDA-NEWS. On 21 August 2008 was announced, that the builders of the Moscow Metro started to use an innovative technology at driving inclined tunnels for escalators – a special mechanized plant takes place of a manual drive.

“This fact happened during the construction of Maryina Roshcha station on August 20. The experts of Lovat jointly with the engineers of Mosmetrostroy and the workers of Metrogiprotrans Institute have been developing this unique equipment and technology over 3 years. Today these ideas put into metal and drawings have been implemented at the construction of the Moscow Metro for the first time in the world,” Dmitry Golovin, head of the press service of the Moscow Metro, said.

According to the official, the plant has a special shield that was only used at driving horizontal tunnels before. The innovative technology will cut the time of a drive and make the work less hard.

Mr Golovin emphasized that the new plant was in a single exemplar. It will continue to be used at the construction of new subway stations of the Moscow Metro hereafter.
