OREANDA-NEWS. On 21 August 2008 was announced, that June 24 - 27, 2008 company SGS carried out inspection  audit of  quality management system of KUMZ  for conformance to the requirements of SAE AS 9100.

Audit for nondestructive testing was lead under the coordinated program. As announced, all processes fully correspond to the requirements of the standard.  During audit  by SGS representatives observations and offers on  the further improvement of  quality system  and consolidating of positive changes in technological processes were stated. The next certification event is planned for March-April, 2009 and will confirm positioning of metal products of KUMZ in the international aerospace market.

In the R&D center  of KUMZ the production technology of  tooling plates was made. Today the first orders for their delivery to a number of North American customers are  carried out. The  head of R&D center - director on technology Alexey  S. Ershov gives his  view on this and other tasks:

New technology is very  important for KUMZ. First  of all, opportunities  for development of a new market niche in the USA where  traditional suppliers of aluminium semifinished items  feel the certain expansion from the Chinese manufacturers are created. KUMZ does not wish to lose positions and also aspires to strengthen them due to development of new market directions.

Secondly, work on tooling plates  in concordance with innovative positioning of the  enterprise. For  R&D center it  is especially  important, because one of  its priority directions is development of new technologies for manufacture of the demanded new products. Though tooling plates were  meant mainly for the electrotechnical industry and machine-building complex, products with excellent mechanical machinability, welding characteristics and high durability are potentially useful in other hi-tech spheres of application.

And thirdly, the new technology development emphasizes those advantages which the enterprise expects from  the R&D center functioning. Its services and technological divisions in the basic manufacture are the original centers forming creative teams  for  the tackling different tasks of technical policy. In case of tool  plates such functional  and  team style of work have played the affirmative role.  During six months  there was performed a huge volume of work which results in new perspective technology.  The R&D center functions at KUMZ during the three years. The effect of its work in combining of two  spheres.  Traditional sphere  connected with improving  of existing technological base and decreasing the cost of semifinished products, quality check under standards requirements.  And innovative one is focused  on development of  new technologies and new demanded items. We are improving what we have, and we are working on prospect also. We reduce distances from idea to its introduction. It is good, when there is a center which is carrying out coordinator role in communications of the enterprise with scientific research institutes and customers. Here are some results of the last period. Rolling production was upgraded to produce high quality plates. In foundry production the technology of casting of ingots without surface scalping is put into operation. At forging shop the technology of forging from flat ingots (of some alloys) with non-milled surface is introduced.

In 2008-2009 KUMZ should  pass qualifying process with participation of leading world aviabuilders. There are very high requirements to products quality and production stability. A number of  serious tasks is planned and is carried out. Qualification by aviation primes not only underlines image of  the enterprise, but also opens real opportunities on the conclusion of perspective long-term contracts  both  in aviation and in other hi-tech spheres.    EXHIBITION ACTIVITIES   The delegation of KUMZ  including top management and specialists has taken part in the Farnborough International Air Show 2008, (UK).

Atmosphere of such air shows as Farnborough near London and Le Bourget near Paris promotes development of business cooperation  with leading world aerospace companies.  In the list  of  the problems solved by delegation within the limits  of exhibition - contacts establishment, active promotion of marketable products.

Various kinds of die-forgings, rolled rings, extruded panels, samples of extruded and rolled products have been presented at KUMZ expositions. The stand of enterprise enjoyed enhanced attention of participants and exhibition visitors to which the full information about KUMZ potential and its market ambitions was offered.
