OREANDA-NEWS. August 19, 2008. Thus, in 1995- 2007, the trade development index (ratio between the growth of export and import) in Moldova amounted to 0.41, indicating a higher growth of import vs. export.

The best indicators of trade development were registered in Azerbaijan - 3.25 points. Then follows: Bosnia and Herzegovina - 2.46 points; Kazakhstan and Armenia - 1.57 points; Russia - 1.46 points, etc.

In addition to Moldova, the faster growth of import vs. export was registered in 9 countries (Slovakia - 0.98, Kyrgyzstan - 0.94, Latvia - 0.9, Romania - 0.88, etc.), while in 18 countries indicators show trade growth.

According to the experts, export of “slowdown” countries in reforms’ development such as Azerbaijan (trade development index- 3,25), Belarus (1,11), Turkmenistan (1,12) and Uzbekistan (1,2) have significantly increased in comparison with more successful countries.

Obviously, in some cases trade growth is based on the export of hydrocarbons which cost was constantly growing.

According to the experts, export also grew due to development of productive capacities in the result of investments, structural and institutional reforms.

According to the research of the Expert Grup, in 1995-2007, import to Moldova grew by 4.4 times - from US840.7 million up to US 3 billion 689.9 million.

At the same time, due to grave situation in the industrial sector, which was exacerbated by macroeconomic and climatic shocks in 1995-2007, Moldovan export grew 2.5 times slower than import (from US 745.5 million up to US 1 billion 341.8 million). It is noted that Moldovan export volume exceeded import only in 2011.
