Number of Remittances of Individuals from Abroad Increased in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. August 19, 2008. In I half of 2008, volume of remittances to Moldova from individuals from abroad amounted to US755,95 million.
It is 1,6 times more in comparison with the same period of 2007 (US 474,74 million). As it was informed in NBM, more than US 577.44 million (76.4%) in January-June 2008 were sent through fast money transfer systems.
In particular, in January 2008, the volume of remittances from individuals from abroad through commercial banks amounted to US 89.72 million, in February - US 104.55 million, in March - US 126.4 million, in April - US 156, 5 million, in May - US 131.27 million and in June - US 147.51 million.
Currently the following fast money transfer systems operate in Moldova: Anelik, Posta rapida, Blizko, Strada Italia, BESXpress, Coinstar (Travelex), Caspian Money Transfer, Trabex, Contact Turkiye Express, Grecia Transfer, Unistream, Inter Expres, Uno Money Transfers, Leader, Western Union, Migom Xpress, Money, Money Gram and Privat Money.
As it was informed before, in 2007, the amount of remittances from individuals from abroad reached record level of US 1 billion 218.23 million, increasing by 42.3 % as compared with 2006. The largest volumes were sent from Russia and Italy. According to the World Bank, remittances of Moldovan guest-workers make about one third of the country's GDP.
