OREANDA-NEWS. August 19, 2008. The reconstruction project of the Olympic national sports complex as the main scene of the 2012 European Football Championship will be completed in good time, Deputy Prime Minister Ivan Vasiunyk assured the press upon completion of the meeting of the interagency workgroup for the reconstruction project.

According to the Vice Premier, from the period of formation of the workgroup on July 5 this year, a "great progress was made in preparation of the stadium for the championship, and its withdrawal from the zone of the most risky projects, as was pointed out in the UEFA conclusion". Particularly, the schedule was confirmed for reconstruction of the complex before the end of 2010. The whole of the term, as well as the whole of the work schedule, were approved by UEFA experts.

Several days ago, a contract was signed on reconstruction of the stadium with Germany's GMP architecture bureau. Dismantling is proceeding at the stadium now, with KyivMiskBud acting as the general contractor. Vasiunyk says the work is going ahead of schedule. "We are over-fulfilling the plan by several months," the Vice Premier said adding the effort will be completed in a matter of two months.

Under the project, the first circle of the stadium must be entirely removed. Simultaneously, questions will be solved of lowering down the field to obtain more space. "Under the project, the stadium must have 73,000 seats, its cost set by the government being UAH 1.5 billion, which yet may change," Vasiunyk noted.
