OREANDA-NEWS. August 11, 2008. Russian Railways expresses its deep condolences to the relatives and friends of those killed during the conflict in South Ossetia, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

On 11 August, the Board of Russian Railways and the Central Committee of the Russian Union of Railway and Transport Builders appealed to all railway workers with a proposal to support the initiative of the Company’s units to assist victims and bereaved families. A special account was opened.

The initiative to help the affected residents of South Ossetia has been supported in all units, branches and structural divisions of Russian Railways. It was also decided to transfer one day’s salary to a special account. So far, the account has 4 million roubles, and fund-raising continues.

The Company is ready to provide rolling stock and transport refugees from South Ossetia to Russia’s Southern Federal District and provide them with medical care at all railway hospitals in the North Caucasus region.

Russian Railways health camps belonging to South-Eastern, Kuybyshev, Gorky, Privolzhsky, Moscow and North-Caucasus Railways are also ready to take children from South Ossetia.

Refugees in Gelendzhik will be given accommodation at the Solnechny (Sunny) rest home belonging to Russian Railways.

Russian Railways has also begun collecting warm clothing and basic necessities to be sent to the victims.

In addition, hospitals belonging to Moscow Railways, a regional division of Russian Railways, has begun collecting blood to treat those wounded and injured during the conflict. Moscow Railways expects to about 350 liters of blood to be donated this week.
