Results of Norilsk Nickel BoD Meeting Announced
OREANDA-NEWS. On August 08, 2008 the Board of Directors of OJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel (hereafter - Norilsk Nickel or the Company) held another meeting, at which Directors reviewed inter alia the issues related to election of General Director, approval of new Management Board, setting up new Committees of the Board of Directors and participation of the Company in the bid for the development of Udokan deposit, reported the press-centre of Norilsk Nickel.
The Board of Directors of Norilsk Nickel approved by a majority vote the resignation by Sergey Batekhin and voted for appointment of Vladimir Strzhalkovsky to the post of General Director of the Company effective August 9, 2008.
In addition, the Board of Directors resolved that the number of the Company’s Management Board shall be 8. In accordance with the Board of Directors’ resolution, the following persons were elected to the Management Board of Norilsk Nickel:
Vladimir I. Strzhalkovsky – General Director – Chairman of the Management Board of Norilsk Nickel;
Sergey L. Batekhin – Deputy Chairman of the Management Board;
Alexander V. Popov – First Deputy General Director;
Oleg V. Lobanov – Deputy General Director for Economy and Finance;
Kirill Y. Parinov – Deputy General Director for Corporate, Proprietary and Legal Issues;
Evgeniy V. Potapov – Deputy General Director for Mining and Metallurgy;
Viktor E. Sprogis – Deputy General Director for Sales and Distribution;
Viktor P. Tomenko - Deputy General Director, Director of the Polar Division.
Two new committees of the Board of Directors were set up in the Company – Social Policy Committee and Budget Committee. Andrey Klishas was elected as the Chairman of Social Policy Committee, Alexander Bulygin was elected as the Chairman of Budget Committee.
The Board of Directors reviewed the issue on participation of the Company in the development project for Udokan deposit. Based on economic estimates, the Company’s Board of Directors resolved that independent participation in the development of the deposit was unadvisable.
BIOGRAPHY
Vladimir Strzhalkovsky was born on May 29, 1954 in Leningrad city, Russia.
Educational background:
In 1977 he graduated from V.I. Lenin Leningrad Institute of Electric Engineering, at which he majored in Applied Mathematics. Mr. Strzhalkovsky is Candidate of Economic Sciences.
Professional experience:
1977 – 1980: took the position of Engineer at the Control Systems Research and Development Institute.
1980 – 1991: worked for KGB of the USSR at its Leningrad and Leningrad Region Division.
1991 – 1999: worked as General Director at CJSC Firma Neva.
1999 – 2000: worked as Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism.
2000 – 2004: worked in the position of Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for Economic Development and Trade.
2001 – 2008: supervised the work of Russian teams on intergovernmental commissions for trade and economic cooperation with Indonesia, Greece, Spain, Bulgaria, Holland and Cyprus.
2003 – 2004: worked in the post of Chairman of the World Tourism Organization’s Executive Board.
2004 – 2008: Head of the Federal Tourism Agency.
Presently:
Member of the Russian President’s Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports, Excellence in Sports, and the Preparation and Execution of the 2014 XXII Winter Olympic Games and XI Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi, Head of the Working Group for hotels and accommodation;
Member of the Supervisory Council of the State Corporation on Construction of Olympic Venues and Development of Sochi as Mountain Climate Resort;
Member of OJSC Aeroflot Board of Directors.
State decorations:
Mr. Strzhalkovsky is a Full State Councellor 1st Class of the Russian Federation. He was awarded the Order of Honor, the Order of Friendship, a number of medals, and several honorary mentions by the President and the Government of the Russian Federation.
