METRO Cash & Carry donates 500 000 UAH to Victims of Flooding
OREANDA-NEWS. On 06 August 2008 was announced, that METRO Cash & Carry Ukraine allocated 500 000 UAH to help victims of the flooding in Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsy and Lviv regions. The company involves its employees, customers and business partners to help in this national crisis.
“As a good corporate citizen we recognized the need to help to the people that suffered most in the flooding. It is our priority to support those living in the regions of our operations in an unbeuracratic way”, - said Axel Hluchy, Managing Director of METRO Cash & Carry Ukraine.
Of the allocated funds 100 000 UAH will be given as an in-kind donation of food and non-food products. On this the company cooperates with the local crisis offices established by the government. The amount is equally split between the three affected regions. The first supplies already arrived at the crisis offices.
The remaining 400 000 UAH METRO Cash & Carry Ukraine will offer as a direct financial help. The company will donate funds directly to 200 families selected from the lists of victims provided by the social offices of local government.
To raise additional funds the company installed donation boxes in all 20 METRO Cash & Carry wholesale stores operating in Ukraine to collect donations from its customers and employees. Additionally, 1 kopeck from every sold own brand product “Aro” will be donated as well. This fundraising campaign will last until September 15, 2008.
