OREANDA-NEWS. August 06, 2008. As it was informed in NBM, losses are due to the difference of the exchange rate to the currency assets of the National Bank, which are converted daily at the official lei rate.

According to NBM, as of June 30, 2008, its currency balance amounted to 19 billion 633.9 million leis (USD 2 billion 024.1 million), increasing by 3 billion 917 million leis (USD 403.8 million) or 25% as compared to the same period of 2007.

The amount of money in circulation grew by 1 billion 443.9 million leis (USD 148.5 million) or 23% - from 6 billion 281.7 million leis (USD 647.6 million) up to 7 billion 725, 6 million lei (USD 796.5 million).

As of June 30, 2008 cash means of the government amounted to 2 billion 684.7 million leis (USD 276.7 million), increasing by 3.4 times.

During the same period, the cash amount in banks grew 2.3 times - from 1 billion 866.5 million leis (USD 192.4 million) up to 4 billion 296.8 million leis (USD 442.9 million). Equity of the National Bank of Moldova amounts to 609.2 million leis (USD 62.8 million).
