Uzbek-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission Holds Session
OREANDA-NEWS. On July 30, 2008 the ninth session of the Uzbek-Iranian intergovernmental commission for trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation was held in Tashkent, reported the Official website www.investuzbekistan.uz.
Representatives of the two countries ministries and state bodies, as well as companies operating in fields like trade, fuel, banking, agriculture, food, chemical, textile and pharmaceutical industries, transport, construction, tourism, etc. participated in the event.
Trade minister of Iran Said Masud Mirkazemi said relations between Uzbekistan and Iran were based on friendship, respect, trust and mutual interest.
In 2007, mutual commodity turnover made up USD 565 million, and in the first half of 2008 the figure comprised USD 384.8 million.
Uzbekistan exports to Iran cotton fiber, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, organic fertilizers and slik. Imports from Iran consist of foodstuffs, fruit, paintings and construction materials.
