OREANDA-NEWS. On 29 July 2008 JSC Latvijas kugnieciba (Latvian Shipping Company – LASCO) informed that, on July 24 2008 the delivery of the thirteenth tanker newbuilding took place at 3. Maj shipyard in Croatia. On April 26 in the launching and naming ceremony the newbuilding already was given the name of Latvian city of Salacgriva, bet as the Godmother of the ship LASCO invited Deputy Chairman of Salacgriva City Council Dr. Skaidrite Eglite.

The delivered newbuilding is the thirteenth of 14 ordered in the framework of the vast tanker fleet renewal program which was launched in 2006. Thereby LASCO is proceeding with the implementation of its strategic goal set – to ensure the increase of LASCO value securing its place among the top ten medium size tanker owners in the world.

With the delivery of the newbuilding LASCO’s fleet currently is comprised of 36 tankers, two LPG carriers, one refrigerator and one dry cargo ship – in total 40 ships with highly professional crews that conform to contemporary requirements.
