VivaCell Sponsors Multilanguage Information Panels at Gyumri
OREANDA-NEWS. July 28, 2008. Opening ceremony of the historical center of Armenia’s second city Gyumri was held at Guy and Gorki streets’ Ghorganian area.
The long-term program being implemented jointly with the Ministry of Culture is aimed at raising awareness of Armenia’s historical, cultural and natural monuments. In the framework of the project, information panels, directional signs and companion booklets will be put at five sites of the project: Garni, Historic Giumri, Zvartnots, Khor Virap/Artashat, and Noravank/Noravank Nature Area. Sponsors of the program are Armenia’s leading mobile operator VivaCell, Italy’s Honorary Consul to Gyumri Antonio Montalto, and USAID/CAPS.
Aiming at the promotion of the historical-cultural sites and developing more information about the cultural and historical heritage and communicating it to the society, the Armenian Monuments Awareness Project created and installed multilanguage information panels, directional signs and markers at the historical area of Gyumri, which in turn will encourage the development of tourism.
In the cultural-historical center of Gyumri, the project’s activities embraced Gai, Jivani, Rustaveli, Ghorghanian, Gorki, Abovyan, Varpetats streets, and also included the “Gorka” park, Liberty square, “Peace” area and “Victory” park. Information panels, directional signs and markers were installed to serve as guides for tourists, who visit the amazing historical and natural monuments in Gyumri.
A separate multilanguage print guide is created for each select site. The print guides provide comprehensive information by presenting both the historical and cultural aspects of the monument.
As a constituent part of the project, a festival under the heading “Renaissance in Gyumri” was held on Ghorghanyan street of Gyumri. The festival represented the past, present and future of the Historic Gyumri.
