OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2008. The Head of the Moscow Regional Office of the FAS Russia Mrs. Taisiya Tkacheva chaired the 9th session of the UNCTAD Intergovernmental Group of Experts (IGE) on Competition Law and Policy held in Geneva, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

Within the frameworks of the IGE UNCTAD the uniform competition policy is elaborated and actions on capacity building and technical assistance are undertaken. One of the priorities of the IGE UNCTAD activity is strengthening of the role of the developing countries in the sphere of competition policy.

The topical issues of the competition policy were discussed on this session of the IGE UNCTAD, in particular: balance of independence and accountability of competition authorities, attribution of competence to community and national competition authorities, abuse of dominance and unilateral conduct, capacity building and technical assistance.

On the whole, participation of the Russian delegation in the 9th session of the IGE UNCTAD was fruitful and provided for elaboration of new approaches on solving problems in competition policy and enforcement.
