Ecologists Visit Construction Site of Leningrad NPP-2
OREANDA-NEWS. July 22, 2008. A delegation of “Green World” public ecological organization has visited the construction site of Leningrad NPP-2.
A delegation of “Green World” public ecological organization visited the construction site of Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant-2 on July 22 in the framework of their 10th ecological bike conference.
“This is our 10th bike conference. The conferees are residents of Sosnovy Bor, Lebyazhye, Kipen, St.Petersburg. We are planning to go 450 km along the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland and to visit the areas enjoying enhanced ecological protection and the area needing special ecological care. Our goal is to see how our shore is doing,” the Chairman of the Council of Green World O.Bodrov said.
The key goal of this action is to attract the attention of the Government of Leningrad region to the necessity of elaborating a complex plan of action to develop the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland. This project is supposed to help the local nature to reproduce its resources.
The construction site of Leningrad NPP-2 was the first place the bikers stopped at after setting off from Sosnovy Bor.
The deputy head of the Technical Inspection Department of the Directorate for the Construction of Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant-2 R.Khanzarov told the guests about the construction of the plant and the measures done to ensure its safety and efficiency.
Over 600 people and 300 vehicles are involved in the project for the moment.
The chief expert on ecological safety of Atomenergoengineerig LLC V.Studenikina pointed out that the project complied with all sanitary and ecological standards.
