OREANDA-NEWS. July 18, 2008. This year the spring high-water period in Dagestan was very powerful. Staring with the third decade of April, water inflow in the Sulak River exceeded the average by 20-25% and on some days by 30-35%, reported the press-centre of RusHydro.
 
This year the high-water period continued for 75 days. In June the peak inflow in the Sulak River equaled 576m3/sec. Average daily generation during the period was 15,3 million kW/h. From April 20 through June 30, 2008 the total output of all hydropower stations of Dagestan branch of JSC “RusHydro” was 950 million kW/h of electric power.
 
The main task of the high-water period is accumulation of hydro-resources in the reservoir of Chirkey hydropower station in accordance with the water utilization plan; which was accomplished in line with the stability criterion of hydro-engineering facilities.
 
As for July 15, 2008 water level in Chirkey hydropower station reservoir reached 351.63m (NHL 355m). It means that hydropower generation sector of Dagestan is well prepared for the coming winter.
