The Bank of Lithuania which is an important institution of the domestic official statistics has been preparing the Balance of Payments of the Republic of Lithuania since 1995.

The Balance of Payments is a statistical report which includes Lithuania's economic operations with the rest of the world. The payment of balance includes transactions between country?s economic agents (residents) and foreign economic agents (non-residents). The balance of payments also includes foreign trade, investment income, and remittances by emigrants, official reserve assets, foreign direct investment, and many other economic transactions.

In the beginning, the payment balance data were issued in a short separate publication and on Internet. Starting with 1997, the balance of payments’ indicators are published in the form of a regular quarterly bulletin.

The content of the publication has changed over years. Taking into consideration the needs of the users, the balance of payments bulletin now additionally includes statistical data on external debt, official reserve assets, foreign direct investment inflow and outflow, services and current transfers.
