OREANDA-NEWS. July 17, 2008. The canneries of the Gomel oblast plan to manufacture 13,.5 million standard cans of green peas, up 40% over 2007. The canneries are set to process 3,6 thousand tonnes of feed stock this year, it was learnt from the Gomeloblprischeprom enterprise.

The regional canneries include the Turov cannery, Koptsevichi vegetable dehydration plant and Elsk cannery.

As of July 17 the companies made 3,7 million standard cans of green peas, or 25% of the plan. The major company, the Turov cannery, is expected to make 6 million standard cans this year.

Green peas are canned into glass containers with twist-off caps and in tin cans.

According to specialists, the companies of the region are now busy signing contracts to deliver this product to the regions of the Russian Federation.

The demand of Belarus in tinned green peas is estimated at 15-20 million standard cans.
