OREANDA-NEWS. July 15, 2008. The opening ceremony of the new building of the expanded EANS complex took place; the major part of the new premises is devoted to ATS OPS room, reported the press-centre of EANS.

The opening ceremony was headed by Tanel Rautits, Chairman of the Management Board, and Juhan Parts, Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications.

During the construction process the complex has been expanded by 1261.6 square metres, its major part being devoted to ATS OPS. The building also accommodates Flight Data Section, technical premises, fitness halls, relaxation rooms and a kitchenette.

EANS was forced to enlarge its premises by the rapid increase in air traffic which has grown during the 6 months of 2008 by 19.5% - the number of flights in June only reached the record of 16089. During recent years EANS has been recruiting new controllers – apart from employing graduates of Tartu Aviation College EANS also sends people abroad for training. The traffic growth as well as the implementation of Single European Sky Project require augmentation of the existing systems and improved efficiency.

The design of the new building was prepared by Sweco Projekt AS and the construction was carried out by Rand ja Tuulberg. The expenses for the design were 1.6 million Estonian kroon, the construction cost reached 41,5 million Estonian kroon; the project was financed from own resources.
