Moldova Keeps Its Rights Over "Barza-Alba" Trade-Mark
OREANDA-NEWS. July 14, 2008. The Agricultural and Industrial Agency "Moldova-Vin" denied the fact that Moldova lost its exclusive right to ownership over the trade mark "Barza Alba" in favour of the Russian Federation.
This happened after what several Russian media services communicated that "Rospatent (Russian house of litigation regarding licenses) gave the rights over this trade-mark to a Russian company.
The director-general of Moldova-Vin Iurie Carp said that the information given by the Russian press is based on no legislative act and respectively it is false. So the "Barza Alba" trade-mark continues to be owned by Moldova.
We specify that the Russian media said that the rights on this trade-mark were given to the Russian enterprise "Altair" following its request. The enterprise explained its request by the fact that during three years the trade-mark "Barza-Alba" was not used in Russia.
At the same time, according to the Customs Crevice, after the resumption of wine exports to Russia, from October 2007 to April 2008, about 90 thousand deciliters of "Barza Alba" cognac were exported from Moldova to the Russian market.
The trade-mark "Barza Alba" was founded in 1978 and became one of the main brands of cognac in the ex-Soviet area. Presently the Aroma group of enterprises produces cognac under this trade-mark and the brand is the property of the "Moldova-Vin" Agency.
