OREANDA-NEWS. July 10, 2008. The time is favourable for carrying out ambitious investment projects in Belarus, Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov noted during a session of the Belarusian-Turkish Business Cooperation Council in Minsk.

According to the minister, large investment projects will help Belarus and Turkey promote economic relations. There is another reason why the timing is right for big projects. Belarus has been liberalizing its economy in a serious and quite radical manner, the Belarusian Foreign Minister highlighted.

The minister noted that the government does its best to improve business environments in Belarus. It concerns both national and international business. Belarus has abolished the gold share rule, simplified registration and liquidation procedures, reduced the number of administrative procedures.

Belarus has established additional tax allowances and guarantees for investors. Sergei Martynov stressed that special business doing conditions have been set up in small towns and rural areas of Belarus. He expressed hope that Turkish businessmen will pay their attention not only to the capital and regional centres of Belarus but to the towns with the population under 50,000 and less “which, in fact, enjoy now the regime of free economic zones”.

“We invite Turkish investors to carry out big projects to set up highly technological productions and up-to-date infrastructure in construction, logistics, transport and tourism areas. We are also interested in implementation of joint projects not only in Belarus and Turkey but in third countries as well,” Sergei Martynov said.

Belarus shows a special interest in Turkish experience in construction and export of services. According to the minister, the geographical position of Belarus and Turkey offers perfect opportunities to develop cooperation in logistics and transit.
