On 11 July 2008 was announced, that VNIIGAZ delegation headed by the General Director Roman Samsonov took an active part in the 19 World Petroleum Congress and Exhibition held in Madrid, 29 June – 3 July 2008. Victor Skorobogatov, Doctor of Science in Geology and Mineral Science, Director of the R&D Center “Gas Resources” took the floor at the Congress to deliver the presentation “Evaluating Potential Oil Resources in Predominantly Gas-Bearing Formations and Rock Units (the Case Study of Sedimentary Basins of Siberia and Far East of Russia)”. On the 4th of July, WPC was followed by the second meeting of the standing Steering Committee working on the project “Global gas industry: 2030 development outlook” under the Triennial IGU Work Program 2006-2009.

The Steering Committee is represented by the members of Presidium and IGU Coordination Committee, and recognized experts in global gas business. As a Gazprom’s representative in the Steering Committee, Roman Samsonov discussed strategic issues affecting global gas market behavior, expected trends and scenarios of gas industry development up to the year 2030, and the role of Gazprom as one of the leading players at the global gas market.

The Steering Committee shall prepare a Global Report that is included as a key presentation in the program of the XXIV World Gas Congress (Buenos-Aires, 2009).
