Moldova Increases Trade Deficit
OREANDA-NEWS. July 08, 2008. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, negative trade balance of Moldova amounted to 32,% vs. 36,8% in January-May 2007 (excluding Transnistria). In the first five months of 2008, import exceeded export by 3,1 times.
Thus, the volume of Moldovan export in January-May 2008 totalled about \\\\$ 608,6 million, increasing by 25,5% as compared to the same period of 2007.
The volume of import to Moldova amounted to \\\\$ 1 billion 890,1 million, exceeding the last year’s indicators by 43,4%. Thus, export to CIS countries grew by 40,3% - up to \\\\$ 245,2 million. Deliveries of Moldovan products to EU increased by 26,1% - up to \\\\$ 312,2 million.
Import from CIS grew by 37% - up to \\\\$ 669,7 million and from EU- by 40,8% - up to \\\\$ 841,9 million. The trade deficit with EU countries increased by 51,5% - up to \\\\$ 529,7 million, and with CIS – by 37,7% - up to \\\\$ 424,5 million, respectively.
The largest trade deficit of Moldova has been registered with Ukraine (\\\\$ 249 million), Russia (\\\\$ 143,4 million), Romania (\\\\$ 123,1 million), Germany (\\\\$ 112 million), China (\\\\$ 110,5 million), Turkey (\\\\$ 77,5 million), Italy (\\\\$ 55,9 million) and Belarus (\\\\$ 40,1 million).
