OREANDA-NEWS. On 07 July 2008 was announced, that UC RUSAL's bauxite and alumina complex in Fria (Guinea) has embarked on a water supply programme, designed to bring water to the homes of local residents. Stage 1 of the project will see nine villages, which neighbour UC RUSAL’s production site, connected to the water supply from artesian wells.

With drilling activities already underway, the next step will be to equip the boreholes with pumps so that water can be delivered to local villages.

One of these villages, Kalйta, is the first location for drilling boreholes. UC RUSAL has already supplied villages included in this year's programme with large containers to collect and store water.

The water supply initiative is just one of many social programmes carried out by the Fria bauxite and alumina complex which aims to improve the living conditions of the local population.
