Latvia Faces Industrial Production Output Decrease by 3,1%
OREANDA-NEWS. July 04, 2008. Compared to April 2008, industrial production output in May 2008 has decreased by 3,1 percent, according to the seasonally adjusted data of the Central Statistical Bureau.
In manufacturing, there was a volume decrease of 3,3 percent, in electricity, gas and water supply – 3,4 percent, but in mining and quarrying the volume increased by 7,1 percent.
Compared to May of previous year, in May 2008, industrial production output decreased by 8,5 percent. In manufacturing, there was a volume decrease of 8 percent, in electricity, gas and water supply - by 9,6 percent, but in mining and quarrying the volume increased by 3,1 percent.
The decrease in industrial production is related to the drop in demand and decrease of orders in the following economic activities: food, textiles and wearing apparel, manufacture of wood, paper products, printing, chemicals and chemical products, rubber and plastic products, construction materials and furniture. Also, the decrease of manufacturing volume was influenced by interruption of enterprises’ activity in separate economic activities.
