St. Petersburg Welcomes Strategic School of Young Nuclear Scientists
OREANDA-NEWS. July 3, 2008. Over representatives 100 from almost 50 Rosatom companies attended the seminar. The first auditors of the school were young researchers and post-graduates involved in different projects concerning nuclear and radiation safety, the new technological platform and possibilities of use of non-nuclear technologies (superconductors, pure water, medicine) in the nuclear sector.
Among the lecturer were the advisor of the director general of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Igor Peshukov, the head of the Scientific Policy Department of Rosatom Valery Rachkov, the head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety and Licensing Department of Rosatom Alexander Agapov, the deputy director general of Rosenergoatom Concern Vladimir Asmolov, academician Gennady Filippov, the president of the Russian Nuclear Society Ivan Fedik, the head of the Department for Work with Public Organizations and Regions of Rosatom Igor Konyshev, heads of nuclear companies, research institutes and specialized universities.
During the lectures and roundtables the parties discussed the Strategy for Development of the Nuclear Power Industry, the problems of fundamental science and intellectual security of the country, the possibilities of use of nano-technologies in the development of the nuclear power industry, the federal target program on nuclear and radiation safety.
Special attention was paid to the roundtables on the Strategy for Development of the Nuclear Power Industry and the tasks of the nuclear science as well as on Nuclear and Radiation Safety.
While welcoming the participants in the roundtable on the Strategy for Development of the Nuclear Power Industry, Director General of ATOMINFORM Eldar Urmanichev pointed out that there were two main viewpoints concerning the strategy: one of them gives priority to the development of technologies, the other – to the ability to meet the challenges of the modern market. One of the topics of the roundtable was the concept of leadership in the light of the development of the nuclear industry.
The representatives of the Personnel Management Department of Rosatom State tested the personal and business qualities of the young researchers.
It was the first such school. The objective of this seminar is to preserve traditions in nuclear science and engineering, to support talented youths and to rejuvenate the personnel working in the sector.
The organizers of the school were Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation and ATOMPROF.
