OREANDA-NEWS. July 01, 2008. European electricity transmission system operators (TSO) will cooperate in a newly established organization - ENTSO-E (the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity). This association will be established in accordance with the principles set out by the draft Third Legislative Package on the EU Internal Electricity Market, reported the press-centre of Lietuvos Energija.

The establishment of ENTSO-E will strengthen cooperation among TSO companies both at the European and regional level, will help in enhancing integration of the European electricity market and ensuring secure and reliable operation of the European transmission systems.

This will be a major step towards harmonisation of relevant codes and practices.  ENTSO-E will work with a clear mandate in line with the market expectations and in consultation with European regulators and the European Commission. In this new environment, the TSO companies will be able to focus on the implementation of their transparent goals and to be solid in voicing their standpoint on the issues related to the development of the EU electricity market.

On 27 June the Chief Executive Officers of 36 TSO companies (including Lietuvos Energija AB) from 31 EU member-states expressed their intent to join ENTSO-E.

All currently active TSO associations in Europe (ETSO, UCTE, NORDEL, UKTSOI, ATSOI, BALTSO) undertake to wind-up their respective activities as soon as ENTSO-E is established. Lietuvos Energija AB has been the member of European Transmission System Operators (ETSO) since 2005, and the member of the organisation of the Baltic Transmission System Operators (BALTSO) since 2006. The companies currently having membership in ESTO and BALTSO will be able to transfer their activities to ENTSO-E without any additional covenants.
