GUAM Summit Participants Sign Batumi Declaration
OREANDA-NEWS. On July 01, 2008 in Georgia the participants of the third GUAM Summit – President Yushchenko of Ukraine, President Saakashvili of Georgia, President of Azerbaijan Aliyev, President Adamkus of Lithuania, and President Kaczynski of Poland signed the Batumi Declaration "GUAM unites Europe's East”, reported the Official website www.president.gov.ua.
In the declaration the signatories did:
reaffirm devotion to democratic values, respect to human rights and liberty, supremacy of the law and strenghtening the spirit of tolerance among nations;
stress invariability of the course towards development of regional cooperation as well as strenghthening partnership between GUAM and the USA, Poland, Japan, other states and international organizations;
emhasize importance of implementation of branch cooperation development Strategy as a model of deepaning economic, humanitarian, law-protection cooperation;
express concerns about threats resulting from the “frozen conflicts”, separatism, international terrorism, and declare readiness of GUAM to counteract jointly to these treats;
reaffirm readiness to further build up a system of energy security and develop liberalization and diversification of the european energy resources market;
declare eagerness to deepen trade-economic ties through implementation of agreements on free trade zones within the framework of the organization;
Besides the Statement by GUAM Council of Member-States' Heads was signed. The declaration is broadly based on GUAM branch cooperation development Strategy and reaffirms importance of free trade zone establishment, elaboration of common transport policy and cooperation within the framework of NELTI transport corridor implementation.
