Sergey Ivanov and Sergey Kiriyenko Attend ATOMCON 2008 Exhibition
OREANDA-NEWS. June 26, 2008. They showed special interest in new models of nuclear reactors and the new information center of Rosatom.
When passing by the stand of Uranium Holding ARMZ, Kiriyenko told Ivanov that Russia had launched a large uranium prospecting and mining program and was considering the possibility of prospecting and developing uranium deposits in Yakutia.
At the stand of TVEL Corporation, one of the world’s leading nuclear fuel producers, Kiriyenko and Ivanov inspected the mock-ups of existing and projected fuel assemblies for nuclear reactors. Some of the assemblies are meant for export.
Ivanov asked Kiriyenko about the work of Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrate Plant, a subsidiary of TVEL Corporation. Kiriyenko said that the plant did not work at its full capacity and had to take active steps for expanding into the European market.
“Driven by political motives, Ukraine has decided to buy nuclear fuel at a higher price (compared with Russian fuel) from Westinghouse Corporation,” Kiriyenko said.
Ivanov took special interest in the mock-ups of nuclear reactors.
In the end, Ivanov and Kiriyenko visited the pavilion with the second-generation information center of Rosatom: a huge semi-spherical screen displaying a 3D picture with speaking title “Let’s Travel the Nuclear Energy World.”
Ivanov and Kiriyenko also visited the pavilion of Alstom-Atomenergomash, a JV set up by French Alstom and Russian Atomenergomash for producing low-speed turbines for nuclear power plants. Ivanov asked the Alstom representatives about the plans of the company.
