OREANDA-NEWS. June 19, 2008. The Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) Mr. Igor Artemiev was re-elected the Chairman of the Interstate Council on Antimonopoly Policy (ICAP). This decision was unanimously taken by all the members of the ICAP during the visit of the FAS Russia' delegation to Kishinev.

The FAS Russia delegation headed by Mr. Igor Artemiev participated in some international events organized by the National Agency for Protection of Competition of the Republic of Moldova.

On June 4-5, 2008 the representatives of the FAS Russia took part in the XXVII Session of the Interstate Council on Antimonopoly Policy in which the Heads of competition authorities of CIS member-states, the representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations of the Republic of Moldova, number of international organizations participated as well.

The members of the Council pointed out that for the past two years the activity of the Council had achieved a qualitatively new level, the ICAP had gained prestige at the very high level in the CIS member-states. They also expressed confidence that the Council would strengthen its positions during next two years.

At the session the participants of the ICAP discussed the results of the work conducted by the Headquarters of Joint Investigations of the Violations of Antimonopoly Legislation in the CIS member-states (Headquarters) that hold its 6th session on the eve of the Council' Session.

The members of the Council appreciated greatly the work done by the Headquarters since the previous Session of the ICAP, particularly on the preparation of the Report on air transportation market analysis in the CIS member-states. For undertaking particular measures on the realization of the suggestions contained in the Report concerning the development of competition in the air transportation market the decision to submit it for consideration of the CIS Economic Council at the level of the Heads of the Governments in July this year was taken.

Besides, the members of the ICAP decided that the Headquarters' experts should launch the practical activity on studying the CIS telecommunications market in the second half of this month already.

Taking into consideration the urgency of the situation in the CIS grain market and the necessity of the competition authorities' participation in the activity on stabilization of prices in this market, the decision to form in the framework of the Headquarters the sub-group on the research in the above mentioned market was taken.

As a result of the Session it was decided to hold the next Session of the ICAP in Astana (the Republic of Kazakhstan). It'll be connected with the 15th anniversary of the ICAP establishment.

On 6th of June the delegation of the FAS Russia also took part in the International Conference "Competition Environment under Globalization Conditions" where the Head of the FAS Russia Mr. Igor Artemiev made a presentation on the "Russian Competition Policy in the Era of Globalization". At the conference the participants discussed the most actual problems of the competition policy, exchanged professional experience in solving the most difficult problems of the development of competition in the current period.

It should be underlined that the mentioned events were held on the eve of the informal Summit of the Heads of the CIS member-states in framework of the XII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum where the leaders of the CIS member-states countries confirmed the priority of the cooperation within the Commonwealth' frames in foreign policy of their countries.
