JSC RusHydro Became Member of E8
OREANDA-NEWS. June 18, 2008. Presidents of the ten world leading electricity companies met in La Malbaie, Canada at the annual e8 summit to discuss the technological challenges and to find solutions to address the global issue of climate change. At this Summit, the e8 Chairmen officially announced the new memberships of JSC "RusHydro". JSC "RusHydro" will be the successor of RAO UES of Russia within the e8, following the recent reforms of the Russian energy sector.
Vasiliy Zubakin, vise-president of JSC "RusHydro" said: "We’ll continue to strengthen our international cooperation developing an efficient and stable energy sector based on the sustainable energy resources."
Chairmen of the following world leading electricity companies from the G8 countries were presented at the meeting: AEP (USA), Duke Energy (USA), EDF (France), ENEL (Italy), Hydro-Quйbec (Canada), Kansai (Japan), OPG (Canada), JSC "RusHydro" (Russia), RWE (Germany) and TEPCO (Japan).
The e8 Chairmen discussed possibilities of using the international electricity sector's technological innovations and potential opportunities to reduce the global climate change effects. They held open discussions on the key issues including the selection of existing and emerging mitigating technologies, renewable energies, effective financing, deployment, implementation and social acceptance.
In a public statement released after the Summit meeting, the e8 Chairmen proposed specific recommendations concerning the role of the electricity sector in the process of the global climate change lessening; this document also stressed the importance of global solutions involving all economic sectors.
