Azerbaijan State Railway Company to Study Germany’s Experience
OREANDA-NEWS. June 18, 2008. Azerbaijan State Railway Company (ADDY) is ongoing study of world experience of restructuring of railway monopolies.
ADDY informs that at primary stage it studied experience of countries with railway liens that are similar on their structure and volumes with the Azerbaijani one.
“In particular, our specialists visited Latvia and Lithuania, whose railway lines have been restructured on the European Union’s requirement. At present we are planning a visit to Germany to study this country’s experience as well,” ADDY said.
The trips of such kind are designed to form detailed concept of ADDY restructuring.
At primary stage ADDY corporization will be conducted and the government will become its 100% shareholder. At the second stage ADDY joint stock company will create three subsidiary enterprises – on cargo transportation, passenger carriages and railway infrastructure.
The newly-established subsidiary enterprises will be able to establish their own daughter companies.
Restructuring terms have not been fixed as the process is still at preparatory stage.
Restructuring plans set an objective to allow extraneous rail carriers to the domestic market. Restructuring will also let improve the process of registration, increase property management efficiency, and financial transparency.
