OREANDA-NEWS. June 18, 2008. The Pacific Bridge Building Company, based in the Far East city of Ussuriisk, will build the bridge across the Zolotoy Rog Bay in Vladivostok, Itar-Tass reports. It is now the only bidder left after other companies, including those from Russia, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, had withdrawn from the tender for different reasons. The local builders are planning to build the bridge, which will be absolutely unique in Russia, in the central part of Vladivostok. The job will take 41months and will cost 17.9 billion roubles, Itar-Tass was told at the press centre of Primorye Territorial Administration.

Construction work is to be started in July and the bridge will be put into operation in December 2011.

The bridge, spanning the Zolotoy Rog Bay, is to connect the central part of Vladivostok with the city’s Pervomaisk District on Churkin Peninsula. The bridge is designed to be approximately 1,400 metres long and 733 metres broad in the area of the principal span. It will be 70 metres above sea level. The total length of the structure, together with grade-crossings, will be more than two kilometres. The project includes also a tunnel within the bounds of the city, which will have four traffic lanes. The experience of Primorye builders and of Russian and foreign experts will be used to put up such a huge structure.
The Zolotoy Rog bridge is the first project that is envisaged by the federal target program to develop the city of Vladivostok as a centre for international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. The bridge will be part and parcel of the transport system, which will be built in Vladivostok by the time of the 2012 APEC Summit. It also includes a bridge to Russki Island and a highway, running from the airport across De-Friz Peninsula. A four-kilometre-long trestle will have to be built across Amur Bay to stretch the road to Vladivostok. This transport network will provide express connection between the airport and Russki Island.
