OREANDA-NEWS. On 18 June 2008 was announced, that Moscow-St Petersburg express highway to be commissioned by 2020 will be paid from St Petersburg to Khimki located in the Moscow region.

“There won’t be any toll roads in Moscow. Moscow-St Petersburg toll road will be paid only to Khimki. The entrance of the road to the city is being designed,” Aleksander Kuzmin, head architect of Moscow, told journalists on June 17.

Earlier Leonid Lipsits, head of transport and communication department of Moscow, said that the Moscow section of the express highway would go along Leningradskoe Highway but wouldn’t enter it, the road would go a little to the north of the highway.

According to Igor Levitin, secretary of transportation of the Russian Federation, the construction of the first section of Moscow-St Petersburg road between the 15th and 58th km will be completed approximately by 2012. The construction is to be launched in 2009.

A stretch of the road running from the MKAD to the ring road of St Petersburg will be roughly 650 km. A carriageway of the road will have 10 lanes near Moscow and 8 lanes in the Moscow and St Petersburg regions.
